Defenition of procedure text

Ketika kita membaca resep kita akan menemukan beberapa langkah-langkah atau prosedur cara pembuatannya. Ternyata, apa yang kita baca itu merupakan sebuah contoh teks berbentuk procedure.

Demikian juga pada saat kita menonton tutorial di youtube, itu merupakan contoh teks procedure dalam bentuk video.

Procedure text adalah teks yang berisi perintah atau instruksi melakukan sesuatu. Biasanya teks ini diawali dengan “How to make …”, “How to operate …” atau “How to…”.

Social function of procedure text

The purpose of procedure text is to show how something is made, used, or done through a sequence of steps.

Jadi teks ini dibuat untuk menjelaskan bagaimana sesuatu itu dibuat, digunakan atau dilakukan melalui serangkaian langkah-langkah yang jelas secara berurutan untuk mencapai tujuan.

Language features of procedure text

Adapun ciri-ciri kebahasaan dari teks procedure, yaitu:

1. Teks ini berisi fakta pembuatan atau pengoperasian sesuatu, sehingga kalimat yang digunakan Simple Present Tense.
2. Menggunakan Imperative Sentence atau kalimat perintah untuk menjabarkan steps. Kalimat perintah diawali kata kerja tanpa perlu mencantumkan subjek terlebih dahulu (subjek “You” tersirat). Contoh kalimatnya Saute the garlic, Cut into pieces, Boil the water, dan lain-lain.
3. Karena teks ini berisi langkah-langkah yang sistematis, maka kita perlu menggunakan Connectives atau kata penghubung yang menunjukkan urutan seperti Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly, Finally, dan sebagainya.
4. Untuk memberikan keterangan durasi waktu yang dibutuhkan, kita menggunakan Adverb atau kata keterangan. Contohnya for about ten minutes, in 5 seconds, dan sebagainya.

Generic structure of procedure text

Setiap jenis teks memiliki strukturnya masing-masing. Untuk membuat procedure text dalam bentuk tulisan terdiri dari aim/goal, ingredients/materials, serta steps/methods.

Aim/Goal

Bagian pertama dari teks ini adalah tujuan, biasanya tercakup di judul teks. Contohnya How to Make omelette.

Ingredients/Materials

Bagian kedua adalah mencantumkan bahan-bahan dan atau alat yang diperlukan untuk mencapai tujuan.

Steps/Methods

Bagian akhir dari teks ini berisi langkah-langkah secara sistematis yang dilakukan untuk mencapai tujuan.
